Our neighbors have been going on vacation a lot this summer. When we go away they are nice enough to watch Oliver, so when they leave, we take care of their pets as well. That meant earlier this summer we babysat some funny black and green caterpillars. While they were at our house, one of them wove a chrysalis around itself, and I know from my hungry caterpillar book that means it will soon become a butterfly. Fortunately, the neighbors went away again before it hatched, and we got to wake up one morning and see the butterfly emerging from its cocoon.
Pretty amazing!
After inspecting it we left it on this branch to stretch its wings and go find its friends.
